Caperucita Roja
or Little Red Riding Hood
Today’s featured book is Caperucita Roja by Adolfo Serra and published by Nordica Infantil, a very special book to me!
This book came out in 2013, but I heard about it probably somewhere around 2021. I had taken some online classes through a platform called Domestika, and one of my favorite classes was taught by the illustrator Adolfo Serra. He’s amazing! He’s the first illustrator I really was a fan of when I was starting to look into illustration as a career path, and it was this book that made me really fall in love with the art form of picture books!
This is a wordless book, and I think I remember him mentioning in the class’s introduction video that he had first thought of it for a project on reimagining classic stories for a class that he himself had taken. But anyway, here are some of my favorite spreads below.
His incorporation and blending of the characters with their environments is so cool to me! I’d easily say it’s his signature style for composing an illustration. He’s also really skilled at using mixed media for his work. So much to be learned from him!
For the Picture Book Look, I wore a white top that I bought on my last trip to Colombia, my red mini skirt, and my white Converse x Comme des Garcons high top sneakers.
Alright, thanks for reading!
