! This book actually came out last fall on October 15. It was on my radar and my list for a while, but I ended up getting lucky and won a copy from last month via Elayne’s Substack as she was promoting her forthcoming book, There’s Something Odd About the Babysitter. I love how supportive the children’s book community is of each other!Anyway, I really am glad I finally got a copy because this book is so cute and funny! I like that Rachel addresses a slightly embarrassing yet totally relatable problem that comes up for children. It made me wonder if she also watched Billy Madison growing up and remembers how Adam Sandler’s character, Billy, helps out a classmate who wets his pants in school. A very memorable scene! I love comedy and yet I feel like it’s a hard thing to pull off in picture books, but I really think Rachel nailed the writing and the comedic beats within the illustrations, too. I also really love the limited color palette and how smoothly the book flowed.
Now for the Picture Book Look!
In the subtitle of this post I mentioned that my solution to the problem presented in this book was to not wear pants haha. And that’s what I did. I picked a green t-shirt dress that I had gotten from Target a while back, my white button-up shirt from Abercrombie, some white vans, and to get that little pop of orange, I wore my Looking at Picture Books hat! I also threw in my old Warwick’s tote bag to the outfit since the pattern (very) loosely nodded to the pattern on the pants of the main character.
Here I am posing in front of Warwick’s this past week! And as always, thanks to my coworker Irene who graciously takes my pictures when I take them at work. Don’t worry, it’s only when there’s a lull in customer traffic haha.
You can buy the book at Warwick’s or Bookshop.org!
Aww Iris, I love this so much and I'm honored that PEE PANTS is paired with such a cute outfit. Also yes, I think of that scene in Billy Madison often. And your solution not to wear pants is genius.
Aww, so glad to see the book got to just the right reader! :) It's a lovely one, isn't it?
